Enjoy the light, love the dark – The Sony A7s Full Review

10/09/2014 By Mathieu

The announcement of the Sony A7s back in April was a surprise for everyone, even the various rumour sites, which are always on top of the most recent leaks. For me, it was the camera I had been hoping to see from Sony, a camera that would concentrate less on megapixels and more on other features. But to desire a camera with specific specs is one thing, to try it and see what it can do in real conditions is another.

It is also important to understand if these new features, however amazing they be, can really make a difference to the photographer. This is why I’ll cut to the chase right now and say that this camera produces outstanding low-light results and that 102400 ISO is usable. You probably knew that already anyway, so I won’t repeat it further.

Big announcement from Fujifilm: X100T, Graphite Silver X-T1, XF 56mm APD and XF 40-150mm f/2.8!

10/09/2014 By Mathieu

Just six days before Photokina 2014 begins, Fujifilm has made the decision to announce what it looks like the new cameras and lenses we will see at the show. Unless they are keeping a few other announcements under wraps, I think we can say with almost 100% certainty that there won’t be any new sensors, more megapixels or a new X-Pro2 in 2014.  But don’t let that get you down–there are some interesting updates that will surely pique your interest!

Introducing ‘The Printing Series’ – Digital photography from another perspective

08/09/2014 By Mathieu

When Heather and I started MirrorLessons one year and a half ago, we understood that reviewing cameras would give us many opportunities that would allow us to explore every facet of this wonderful art that we call photography.

Something I quickly realised was how scant my knowledge about printing was. In total honesty (and also ironically), I haven’t printed a lot since I started to photograph seriously and professionally, even though I always enjoyed the times I did in college.

Let’s take selfies! First impressions of the new Olympus Pen E-PL7

28/08/2014 By Mathieu

The word “selfie” has definitely entered our daily vocabulary thanks to the “smartphotography” trend, and recently many camera brands have added new functionalities to their entry level cameras so that their users can take better ones. Olympus has upped the ante with the new Olympus E-PL7, a camera that focuses on “superior selfies”. But the question that naturally arises is: do selfies have a place on proper cameras in today’s smartphone-dominated world?
