10 Mirrorless Camera Blogs You Should Follow in 2016

01/01/2016 By Heather

At the beginning of each new year, Mathieu and I have the tradition of dedicating a post to our favourite mirrorless blogs from around the web, featuring a mix of well-established references alongside up-and-coming websites with lots of potential. As gear reviewers, we always enjoy reading the opinions of and seeing the photographs produced by our “virtual colleagues” as they often touch upon subjects that we weren’t able to cover in our own reviews or provide a different perspective.

The blogs listed here are those we discovered in 2015 and have been following with great interest. They are listed in no particular order, though we did try to separate blogs that talk about the same brand!

20 Best Images from 2015 & Holiday Greetings from Mathieu and Heather

23/12/2015 By Heather

2015 has been a wonderful year for us here at MirrorLessons. Not only have we had the chance to test and review lots of awesome products, but we also moved to Wales, the country whose beauty captured Heather’s heart when she was a young child, and subsequently Mathieu’s when he visited six years ago. It is a decision we haven’t regretted, despite the “occasional” spell of rough weather! 😉

It has been an exciting year on the mirrorless front as well, with many new cameras and lenses being released and a greater acceptance of mirrorless systems as professional tools. Our feeling is that 2016 will be even better!

Good looks and versatility in the same bag – Tenba Cooper 13 Slim Review

18/12/2015 By Heather

The most recent camera bag we had the opportunity to test was the Tenba Cooper 13 Slim, the second smallest of four messenger bags in the brand new Cooper range. At first, we were undecided between the Cooper 13 Slim and its little brother, the Cooper 8, but since the latter only fits 2-3 lenses and has no room for a laptop, we felt the larger version made more sense.

Fine Art Portrait Photography with the Fuji X Series – An Interview with Bill Gekas

16/12/2015 By Heather

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with photographers who use mirrorless cameras for their work! “Switching to a smaller and lighter system” has become somewhat a buzz phrase as of late, but many working photographers take this philosophy seriously. From medical reasons such as resolving back and shoulder pain to the simple realisation that bigger does not mean better, photographers are turning to mirrorless systems now more than ever before.

This week’s interview is with Bill Gekas, a self-taught portrait photographer from Melbourne who rose to fame with his fine art portraits of his daughter Athena. Originally a Pentax user, he switched to the Fujifilm X series for his work last year, investing first in the X100s and then in the X-E1 and X-T1. His photographs have been featured in various publications and media outlets including BBC, NBC Today, ABC News, Daily Mail and others.

Visit Bill’s website and check out his work on Facebook and Twitter.

All images in this article are property of Bill Gekas and are published with permission.

My Journey to the Olympus System – Guest post by Craig Roberts

14/12/2015 By Heather

Pentax P30, Canon T90, Mamiya RZ67, Fuji GX617, Holga, Zero Image 2000, Canon 5D, Panasonic GF1, Canon 5D MKII, Olympus E-M5, Olympus E-P5, Olympus E-M1 … that’s my camera history in brief! The most significant thing since the Mamiya and the Fuji is how my cameras have shrunk in size. I still can’t believe the weight I used to carry around with a full kit of camera body, lenses and filters. No wonder I have a weak back these days!

I still have the Canon gear, but it’s getting used less and less these days. I can see it being sold in the not too distant future, as it seems to spend more time at home sat in a Lowepro bag than out on-location taking pictures.
