Have you ever set yourself a specific project or challenge to improve your photography? If not, let me tell you that not only is it an excellent way of developing a specific skill, but it also encourages you to learn about a genre in which you may have had very little interest.

Since we as artists all enjoy exercising our creative abilities and sharing our imagery with a wider audience, Mathieu and I at Mirrorlessons in association with Tyson Robichaud Photography Blog have decided to embark on a monthly Flickr photography challenge, and we invite all of you to join us for the ride!

Yesterday I was chatting to a friend who wanted advice on buying a mirrorless camera. He had been looking at the new Sony a6000 but had serious reservations about the price. Like any naïve young photographer, I arrived in Brazil with the notion that I’d find a photo opportunity at every street corner. Knowing the challenge that lied ahead I did a fair amount of research before arriving. I practiced my Portuguese, studied maps and tried to memorize which areas of the city to avoid if ever I were to pace around with my D700 in hand.

Yup, it’s that time of the month again; time to vote for your favourite image submitted for the Monthly Flickr Photography Challenge held in association with Tyson Robichaud! (Time really does fly!) The theme for the month of May was CLOSER, as chosen by last month’s winner Othman Kammah, and we received some very interesting submissions. Most were literal interpretations of the theme realised using macro photography and close physical interactions between two people, while a handful were slightly more abstract in nature. Braving the Elements with the Fuji X-T1: An Interview with Dan Bailey

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with professional photographers who use mirrorless cameras for work! “Switching to a smaller and lighter system” has become somewhat of a buzz phrase as of late, but many working photographers take this philosophy seriously. From medical reasons such as resolving back and shoulder pain to the simple realisation that bigger does not mean better, photographers are turning to mirrorless systems now more than ever before.

This week’s interview is with Dan Bailey, a full time adventure, travel and location photographer whose dynamic imagery demonstrates the power and mystery of nature, and man’s relationship with it. When he’s not on a photo shoot, you’ll find him trekking through the wilderness of Alaska, playing his guitar or flying his little yellow taildragger. As Dan states in his biography, “there is almost no limit to how far [he’ll] go to get The Shot.”
