The definitive hybrid camera? – Hands-On with the Sony A7r II

16/06/2015 By Mathieu

Update: check out our high ISO image gallery taken with the A7r mark II!

The recent announcement of the new full frame mirrorless flagship camera from Sony, the A7rII, has generated lots of excitement on the internet and for good reason. On paper the camera looks like a game changer, packing all the most advanced features a photographer could dream of: new high resolution full frame sensor, 5-axis stabilisation, the largest viewfinder on the market, advanced video recording (including internal 4K), a fast autofocus system and compatibility with a wide range of native and third party autofocus and manual focus lenses. What more could you ask for?

Q is for Quick – Hands-On with the Leica Q (Typ 116)

11/06/2015 By Mathieu

Sometimes it just happens. You grab a camera for the first time and it immediately feels right. You turn it on, you take the first shots, you dig randomly into the menu feeling a little bit lost, but it doesn’t matter. Everything just looks great. It took me a few minutes to realise that the new camera I was holding was actually a Leica camera. It seemed so quick and reactive. I wasn’t expecting that. From the outside, the design is pretty standard but the reactiveness, the autofocus speed, the excellent viewfinder and the touch screen almost make you think that you’ve just encountered something new and exciting while, in actual fact, it is technology we’ve already seen on many other mirrorless cameras up until now.

Honey, I shrunk the X-T1! – The Fujifilm X-T10 review

05/06/2015 By Mathieu

If you haven’t heard of the Disney movie “Honey, I shrunk the kids,” you probably didn’t grow up in the nineties. I watched that movie so many times when I was little that I wore out a VHS copy. So, how does this movie relate to the brand new Fuji X-T10? Well, you must admit that this new camera really does resemble a shrunken version of the X-T1! (By the way, if you wonder what the tiny camera in the cover picture is, it is a USB key).

Classic Fujifilm for the fledging photographer – The Fujifilm X-A2 Review

14/05/2015 By Heather

While many brands populate their line-ups with a vast array of entry-level MILCs, Fujifilm’s series of professional cameras has always been the backbone of the company’s business strategy, strength and success. It was only in 2013, when the X-M1 and X-A1 were released, that it turned its attention toward neophyte photographers looking for an interchangeable system as well.

The announcement of these models was met with mixed emotions. Those who saw Fujifilm as a premium brand felt that the company should steer clear of entry-level models altogether, whereas others applauded them for appealing to a wider audience.

The “take with you everywhere” compact camera – The Fujifilm XQ2 Review

06/05/2015 By Mathieu

Put a premium compact like the Fujifilm XQ2 in my hands and the photography gear enthusiast within me immediately springs to life. I really enjoy my time with these small cameras, even when I don’t have a specific project or goal in mind. I just love to snap random pictures. Funnily enough, I still enjoy them more than smartphones. I love the form factor and what these products are capable of.
