Review of Nucis Leather Shoulder Strap with Peak Design Anchor Links

20/11/2015 By Heather

A few months ago, we had the chance to review three straps from the Nucis collection courtesy of our friend Matthew Maddock of PhotoMADD. Handmade in Portugal, they embody what every photographer tends to look for from a strap: an attractive and practical design made from high-quality and sustainably sourced materials. For example, the Nucis Cork strap (our favourite of the three straps we reviewed) is fashioned from a mix of eco-friendly cork fabric obtained from the Montado ecosystem of southern Europe and local Portuguese leather.

19/11/2015 By Heather

2015 has been an active year for Leica, having announced not one but four digital mirrorless cameras. The latest in this series of releases is the Leica M (Typ 262), an entry-level model that Leica calls “M in its purest form.”

Semi-wide in wild Welsh weather – Panasonic Leica 15mm f/1.7 Review

16/11/2015 By Heather

As a lover of landscape photography, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for small wide-angle primes. This is why I was very excited when we had the chance to test out the premium Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7, a semi-wide angle lens for the Micro Four Thirds system.

Unfortunately, during the two weeks I had with the lens, the Welsh coast was hit with the remnants of not one, but two large storms off the Atlantic, causing gail-force winds, flooding, persistent heavy rain and what people have called “Foamageddon,” referring to the huge amounts of snow-like sea foam that engulfs the promenade on a daily basis. So, be forewarned: you may see quite a bit of wild weather in this review!

What is the best mirrorless full-frame camera (2015)?

13/11/2015 By Heather

Full-frame cameras are commonplace on the DSLR market, with models available from Nikon, Canon, Sony and soon Pentax, but they have yet to permeate the mirrorless market to the same degree.

This can be attributed not to the physical impossibility of fitting a mirrorless body with a full-frame sensor but the difficulty of achieving an optimum balance between body size and image quality.

The problem for manufacturers that want to produce mirrorless full-frame cameras is that the word mirrorless has become synonymous with compactness and portability. This is easy enough to achieve with smaller sensors like APS-C or Four Thirds but becomes much more challenging with full-frame, especially if you want to introduce modern features such as autofocus and optical stabilisation into the lenses.

Think Tank Lily Deanne Lucido Review – The best mirrorless camera bag for women

09/11/2015 By Heather

Whenever we sit down to write a review of a product, be it a camera, lens or accessory, our primary goal is to give you a fair and balanced account of our experience, covering both the bad and the good. While most products are characterised by a mix of pros and cons, on the very rare occasion, we come across a product that is so wonderful that you literally have to go nitpicking for flaws.

In the case of the Think Tank Lily Deanne Lucido shoulder bag for mirrorless systems, we are dealing with a bag that I feel has come as close to perfection as any physical realisation of a product concept can get. It is the only bag I’ve ever tested that hasn’t once caused me to think, “It’s a great product but I wish it had X, Y and Z.”
