Poll: Which is your favourite mirrorless of 2014? (Plus, a holiday greeting from MirrorLessons!)

24/12/2014 By Heather

Recently Mathieu and I have been working hard on piecing together a list of what we feel are the best mirrorless cameras, lenses and accessories of 2014. However, we fully realise that our opinions aren’t the only ones that count, and as such, we’d like to include your opinions on the list as well.

Below you will find a poll featuring the various mirrorless cameras released in 2014. (Can you believe that there are over 25?) Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to pick your favourite release of the year!

Fog on the River Po in Turin – A Fujifilm X100t & Panasonic Lumix LX100 Gallery

22/12/2014 By Heather

George Eastman, the founder of the Eastman Kodak company, once stated:

Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.

Light comes in many forms. It isn’t limited to the traditional sunset, sunrise or the golden hour. Sometimes other weather phenomena can create the perfect shooting conditions as well. [Read more…] about Fog on the River Po in Turin – A Fujifilm X100t & Panasonic Lumix LX100 Gallery

First impressions of the Panasonic Lumix LX100 – Is it a worthy premium compact?

17/12/2014 By Heather

The Lumix LX100 is the first premium fixed-lens compact camera from Panasonic to house a four-thirds sensor, which is twice as large than the 1” sensors found on the likes of the RX100 series and Canon G7X. This is a big step-up from the popular LX7, the LX100’s predecessor, which was released more than two years ago and whose sensor was only 1/1.7″. Of all the mirrorless cameras released this year, the LX100 has been met with some of the most excitement, not only due to its large sensor but also owing to its 24-75mm (equivalent) zoom with a fast aperture of f/1.7-2.8.

So, DSLR users: what’s stopping you from switching over to a mirrorless system?

15/12/2014 By Heather

By now, you’ve probably read numerous stories about photographers who have made the switch over to a mirrorless system both on this website and around the web. Some call it a passing fad, others a natural progression. Whatever it may be, the stronghold the mirrorless segment has on the market is significantly stronger than it was a year or two ago, and barring unpredictable contingencies, the trend should continue.

But here’s the thing. As much as we love stories about photographers switching over to mirrorless (we do run a mirrorless website, after all!), we are also eager to hear from you, the DSLR users who don’t plan on changing systems any time soon.

Have you ever set yourself a specific project or challenge to improve your photography? If not, let me tell you that not only is it an excellent way of developing a specific skill, but it also encourages you to learn about a genre in which you may have had very little interest.

Since we as artists all enjoy exercising our creative abilities and sharing our imagery with a wider audience, Mathieu and I at Mirrorlessons in association with Tyson Robichaud Photography Blog have decided to embark on a monthly Flickr photography challenge, and we invite all of you to join us for the ride!
