Speed in a small and simple package: Review of the Sony a6000

02/09/2014 By Heather

We’ve been very keen on testing the Sony a6000 since its announcement back in February 2014, but with so many other interesting cameras emerging around the same time, it sadly fell by the wayside. Mathieu did spend a day with the camera during the Turin Colour Run courtesy of Sony Italia, but it wasn’t enough to write up a substantial review. Thankfully, we recently came across a wonderful service here in the UK called Hireacamera.com, whereby you hire cameras and lenses at a reasonable price for any given length of time. As soon as I saw they had the a6000 in stock, I contacted them and went about preparing for our very first hire!

01/09/2014 By Heather

Yup, it’s that time of the month again; time to vote for your favourite image submitted for the Monthly Flickr Photography Challenge held in association with Tyson Robichaud! (Time really does fly!) The theme for the month of August was ANIMALS, as chosen by last month’s winner Graham Gibson, and we received a wide variety of submissions featuring all sorts of animals, from the traditional cat and dog to more exotic animals such as falcons, gorillas and lions.   [Read more…] about Flickr Photography Challenge: ANIMALS – It’s time to vote!

Review of the Oliday Canvas Camera Bag for Mirrorless & Small DSLRs

29/08/2014 By Heather

When discussions turn to the topic of camera bags, photographers can become just as zealous as they do when they discuss the very cameras that inhabit them. Discovering the perfect bag for your gear and style of working is incredibly satisfying, but unfortunately it usually takes many failed purchases to find the right one. Does it have the right number of pockets? Is the strap comfortable? Is it weatherproof? Does it fit your camera with a lens attached? Does the style appeal to you? There are many questions you must ask yourself before settling on a specific model.

The latest bag we’ve had the opportunity to try is the handmade Oliday Canvas Camera Bag for mirrorless and small DSLRs. Compared to other popular camera bag brands, Oliday is relatively unknown, which is actually what piqued my interest in the first place as I was browsing around the Etsy camera bag store.

The ‘Artisans’ Charity Book by Tim Allen – Raising funds for NASS through photography

27/08/2014 By Heather

I have been following Tim Allen‘s wonderful Artisans Project ever since he began posting the first pictures from the series taken with his Fujifilm X100 and X-E1. In a world where people raise money by performing silly antics, it is refreshing to see a someone use their photography skills to support a charity, while telling a story and promoting the work of local artisans in the process.

26/08/2014 By Heather

Today Fujifilm announced the successor to the popular X20. The new Fujifilm X30 is the third generation of high-end compact X series zoom cameras. It has an updated and more modern design, replaces the optical viewfinder with the same electronic viewfinder found on the X-E2, and adds lots of improvements and new features including a new film simulation mode called “Classic Chrome.” [Read more…] about Fujifilm announces the new X30 and it looks like an exciting camera!
