Photographing the Super “Blood” Moon Lunar Eclipse with the Panasonic GX8

28/09/2015 By Heather

Last night, we and the rest of the world were witnesses to an event that only happens a few times per century, a super blood moon lunar eclipse. To give you an idea of the infrequency of this event, the last one happened before Mathieu and I were born and the next one won’t happen until 2033!

What 10 Faithful X-Pro1 Users Would Like to See on the Fuji X-Pro2

24/09/2015 By Heather

The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 was the first interchangeable lens camera in the extremely popular line-up of Fujifilm X series cameras, and has become something of an iconic symbol alongside its non-interchangeable brother, the X100.

Now, nearly four years on from its release, X-Pro1 users and Fujifilm fans are on tenterhooks awaiting the arrival of its rumoured successor, the X-Pro2. Of course, with so much build-up and high expectations surrounding the arrival of this camera (if and when it arrives), Fujifilm is under a great deal of pressure to satisfy the needs and desires of its user base. Will they be able to make everyone happy? Probably not, as is always the case, but there are certainly a handful of common features that most photographers will want to see on the second iteration.

This week’s interview is with Mike Peters, a professional photographer and videographer with over 40 years of experience in the field. He is currently the Director of Photographic Services at Montclair State University and has specialised in everything from corporate and magazine work to street photography.

A manual focus 800mm telephoto lens for mirrorless cameras: Review of the Tokina 400 SD AF400 AT-X with an Olympus OM-D E-M1

16/09/2015 By Heather

My book and calendar, Sinai: Landscape and Nature in Egypt’s Wilderness, represents an evolution towards smaller cameras and lenses, from the first photographs taken with heavy SLRs cameras that used slide film, to the early DSLRs, and finally settling on micro four thirds (m43) and high end point and shoot cameras. The weight savings of switching systems from SLRs and DSLRs to the micro 4/3 system has been significant. The weight loss is really noticeable when using micro 4/3 cameras with telephoto lenses, which provide 2x the focal length with only half of the weight.
