Flickr Photography Challenge: MINIMALISM – It’s time to vote!

01/12/2014 By Heather

Yup, it’s that time of the month again; time to vote for your favourite image submitted for the Monthly Flickr Photography Challenge held in association with Tyson Robichaud! (Time really does fly!) The theme for the month of November was MINIMALISM, as chosen by last month’s winner Sami Paju.

I was incredibly pleased to see that this theme, challenging as it may be, received over 40 submissions, with people who have never participated taking part. Many of the images dealt with nature, whereas others played with architecture, irregular forms, and solitary objects.

10 photography gifts the mirrorless photographer in your life will actually find useful

24/11/2014 By Heather

It is one thing being a photographer and buying gear for yourself, but completely another being the spouse or relative of one and trying to come up with a suitable gift. I remember walking into work one day and being approached by one of my colleagues, desperate for advice about which camera accessory to buy for her photography-loving husband. Not having the technical knowledge, she had no idea whether the accessory she had planned to buy was appropriate. To my surprise, a second episode occurred with another equally-confused colleague a few days later.

If you are reading this article, I can assume that you, like my colleagues, are looking for a gift for the mirrorless photographer in your life but don’t know where to start. The following are mirrorless camera accessories and products that Mathieu and I have personally tried and tested, and feel would benefit any photographer’s shooting experience. There is a mix of small accessories that would work well as stocking stuffers, digital products, as well as larger items that would look good wrapped up under the tree.

Photographing the stars with the Lumix GX7 – Interview with Andre T. Nygen

21/11/2014 By Heather

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with professional photographers who use mirrorless cameras for work! “Switching to a smaller and lighter system” has become somewhat of a buzz phrase as of late, but many working photographers take this philosophy seriously. From medical reasons such as resolving back and shoulder pain to the simple realisation that bigger does not mean better, photographers are turning to mirrorless systems now more than ever before.

This week’s interview is with Andre T. Nygen, a Montreal native who moved to Los Angeles when he found his calling as a portrait photographer and videographer for up-and-coming actors and actresses.

Which Lumix should I buy? – Demystifying the Panasonic Lumix series

14/11/2014 By Heather

One month ago, I published a straightforward guide to buying Olympus mirrorless cameras from the Micro Four Thirds series with the promise of publishing a similar article for every mirrorless brand. Since Panasonic Lumix also has a Micro Four Thirds mount and was mentioned more than once in the comments section of the first article, it seemed like the logical brand to cover next. As I mentioned in the Olympus article, the purpose of these guides is to help you wade through the innumerable selection of mirrorless cameras on offer from each brand and find the right one for your needs.

Using the Panasonic Lumix GH4 for wedding photography – An Interview with William Innes

10/11/2014 By Heather

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with professional photographers who use mirrorless cameras for work! “Switching to a smaller and lighter system” has become somewhat of a buzz phrase as of late, but many working photographers take this philosophy seriously. From medical reasons such as resolving back and shoulder pain to the simple realisation that bigger does not mean better, photographers are turning to mirrorless systems now more than ever before.

This week’s interview is with William Innes, an American wedding photographer based out of Los Angeles, California. He is both a wizard with light and a master of capturing tender moments. For the past few years, he has been shooting exclusively with Panasonic Lumix cameras, first with the GH3 and then the GH4, and is one of Panasonic’s Lumix Luminaries.
