The OM-D Successor 2013? What we’d like to see…

10/03/2013 By Heather

There is no doubt that Olympus has struck gold with the creation of the OM-D E-M5, a mirrorless camera with a compact body and a level of image quality that would rival even the newest low-to-mid end DSLRs from Nikon and Canon. This incredible image quality remains intact even at high ISO levels and slow shutter speeds thanks to its internal image stabilisation. (Read our full review to find out more.) If that weren’t enough, this camera is also a looker, with its attractive retro-styling. In short, the OM-D E-M5 is pure perfection, and even comes at a reasonable price for the amount you receive in such a small package.

So, on a camera as perfect as the OM-D E-M5, where could Olympus possible make improvements? Having owned the camera for over a month now, here are a few suggestions we’d like to put forward to Olympus, if they’ll lend us an ear!

What are the key differences between the Fuji x100 and the x100s?

21/02/2013 By Heather

With the recent release of the Fuji x100s in Japan, one cannot help but wonder just how it compares to its predecessor, the x100, and whether it is worth swapping one for the other.

Physically, the two cameras are practically identical, featuring the same sturdy magnesium alloy build in a retro-style body and the same highly appreciated hybrid viewfinder. The only minor differences you’ll notice are the S in the logo, the RAW Q button, and the order of the focus options. Otherwise, the x100 and the x100s may as well be twins.

Take a trip into the inner workings of the x100s, however, and you’ll see why so much buzz has been surrounding its release.

First mirrorless, and now lens-less? The invention of the first metamaterial camera!

20/01/2013 By Heather

We’ve all heard of mirrorless technology, but what about lens-less technology?

At Duke University in the United States, scientists and engineers have used a copper-based metamaterial (or, artificial materials which do not exist in nature) to create a lens-less imaging sensor for cameras to be implemented in airport security and law enforcement.

The Last Roll of Kodachrome by Steve McCurry, now a documentary by National Geographic

14/01/2013 By Mathieu

If you love photography, you will enjoy watching this 30 minute documentary about the last roll of Kodachrome ever developed.

Back in 2009, Kodak announced that its production of Kodachrome film would end, after 74 years (it started in 1935). Steve McCurry, a legendary photographer for National Geographic, asked Kodak if they would allow him to use the final roll ever produced. As he says in the documentary:

“I wanted to have the last chapter in the book of Kodachrome.”

Given his fame, Kodak accepted with great enthusiasm.
