Using Focus Bracketing on the Olympus OM-D E-M10 II

04/09/2015 By Heather

Update: Olympus has announced firmware updates for the E-M1 and E-M5 II that include focus bracketing and focus stacking (E-M1 only) among other things!

It seems that with every new Olympus OM-D camera, we get at least one exciting new feature. And what’s great is that these features aren’t so much “technological gimmicks” as they are a reaction to the realistic needs and interests of photographers.

Compact and powerful – The Olympus OM-D E-M10 mark II Review

25/08/2015 By Mathieu

When a company introduces a new camera, it usually fits into one of the following three categories: a) a brand new camera that inaugurates a new line-up (E-M1, E-M10), b) a substantial upgrade from the predecessor with lots of new features (E-M5 II) or c) a refined version of an already existing model.

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 mark II review, Chapter II – The traveller’s ideal companion

06/07/2015 By Mathieu

Five months have passed since my first review of the OM-D E-M5 mark II. I had the chance to test it before its official announcement and as such, I decided to concentrate on the many new features that camera has to offer. Being among the first to review a new product has its obvious advantages, but it is nice to come back to it a second time to check other aspects I didn’t have time to test in the first place. It is also an opportunity to reconsider one’s first impressions after reading feedback from other users. Indeed, it is something we’d like to do with every camera we test here at MirrorLessons.

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II Review, Chapter I: what’s new and what’s great

05/02/2015 By Mathieu

Update: the second part of my review is now online!

The OM-D E-M5 was considered by many to be one of the first serious Micro Four Thirds cameras for advanced amateurs and even professional photographers. It was the camera that took the system to a new level. If you aren’t new to reading my articles on MirrorLessons, you’ll probably remember that the E-M5 was also the camera that convinced me to leave my Nikon DSLR. Then came the E-M1, which set the standard for professional photographers even higher, followed by the E-M10, which despite being officially ranked at the bottom of the OM-D food chain, included many improvements over the original E-M5.

There were a number of aspects that Olympus had the possibility to improve on the successor to the first OM-D camera, and as you’ll see, the company didn’t hesitate to make substantial changes.

Let’s take selfies! First impressions of the new Olympus Pen E-PL7

28/08/2014 By Mathieu

The word “selfie” has definitely entered our daily vocabulary thanks to the “smartphotography” trend, and recently many camera brands have added new functionalities to their entry level cameras so that their users can take better ones. Olympus has upped the ante with the new Olympus E-PL7, a camera that focuses on “superior selfies”. But the question that naturally arises is: do selfies have a place on proper cameras in today’s smartphone-dominated world?
