In pursuit of light and shadows on the streets – An Interview with Marco Larousse

17/04/2015 By Heather

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with professional photographers who use mirrorless cameras for work! “Switching to a smaller and lighter system” has become somewhat of a buzz phrase as of late, but many working photographers take this philosophy seriously. From medical reasons such as resolving back and shoulder pain to the simple realisation that bigger does not mean better, photographers are turning to mirrorless systems now more than ever before.

This week’s interview is with Marco Larousse, a street, documentary and fine art photography from Hamburg in Germany who shoots both digital and film. An official Fujifilm X Photographer, he has been using the X100 series since the first model appeared on the market. He also runs a blog called Fuji X-Files where he documents his experiences with X series cameras.

The Tale of Two Touits – Part II – Touit 32mm f/1.8 Review

15/04/2015 By Heather

The second Touit that Zeiss sent us to test was the 32mm f/1.8 for the Fujifilm X series. If you thought the difference in focal length between the Touit 12mm and Fujinon XF 14mm seemed small, the Touit 32mm (48mm full-frame equivalent) and Fujinon XF 35mm (50mm full-frame equivalent) could almost be identical twins.

The tangible differences between the two lie elsewhere, specifically in their design, fastest aperture, corner sharpness and original price.

Is the Touit 32mm a worthy substitute for the 35mm on the Fuji X system? Let’s find out below!

Which is the best mirrorless camera for low-light photography?

10/04/2015 By Heather

One of the most challenging shooting conditions for a photographer is low light. Whether you be shooting on the streets, at a wedding, during an event, or indoors, there is often no bigger thorn in the flesh for both the photographer and the camera.

There are of course a handful of classic solutions that photographers have turned to for years, and are still applicable even today. For wide shots and locations, use a tripod and a long exposure. For people, use a flash unit. A monopod can also help if you are using a slower shutter speed.

Though we have these traditional methods, we mustn’t forget that the past five years have seen a rapid and striking improvement in sensor technology either. Today I would say that most cameras can deliver good low-light performance with perfectly usable results up to ISO 3200 or ISO 6400.

The Tale of Two Touits – Part I – Zeiss Touit 12mm Review

08/04/2015 By Heather

While Mathieu has been testing the Sony A7 II and Leica M 240, I’ve been spending my days in the company of two lenses I’ve long wanted to test, the Zeiss Touit 12mm and 32mm. The pair arrived just in time for the Easter weekend, which was by coincidence also one of the warmest and sunniest weekends we’ve experienced since moving here, so there was much to photograph!
