Reviewing PhotoMADD’s X100s Grip and Tripod Plate Kit

17/02/2014 By Heather

“Why add a grip to such a svelte camera as the X100/s?”

This was a valid question we received when we posted an image of PhotoMADD’s X100/s grip and tripod plate kit the other day. Indeed, one of the biggest advantages of the X100/s system is its compactness and portability, so adding a grip may seem like creating a problem for an already-existing solution.

However, after extensively using the kit over the weekend, my impression is that despite the increase in size, it actually has improved my personal shooting experience with the X100s.

The first wedding shot with the Fuji X-T1 – Guest Post by X-Photographer Max De Martino

04/02/2014 By Heather

We don’t often have guest posters on our website, but in the case of Italian X-Photographer Max De Martino, we decided to make an exception. 😉

Below we have translated his original article about his experience using the new Fujifilm X-T1 for wedding photography. The fact that he is the first photographer in the world to have used the X-T1 at a wedding and published the results makes the article all the more interesting! While you’ll find the entire translation here, you can head over to his website to see the full collection of X-T1 images from the wedding. You can also see a video slideshow of the images on YouTube, and don’t forget to follow him on Twitter and Facebook!

Street Shooting with the OM-D: An Interview with Thomas Leuthard

03/02/2014 By Heather

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with professional photographers who use mirrorless cameras for work! “Switching to a smaller and lighter system” has become somewhat of a buzz phrase as of late, but many working photographers take this philosophy seriously. From medical reasons such as resolving back and shoulder pain to the simple realisation that bigger does not mean better, photographers are turning to mirrorless systems now more than ever before.

This week’s interview is with Swiss street photographer and Olympus Visionary Thomas Leuthard, whose work and popular e-books have greatly influenced the street genre. His primary camera of choice is the Olympus OM-D E-M5 (and more recently, the E-M1).

First Impressions of the Sony A7 from an Amateur Perspective

22/01/2014 By Heather

With our full-time jobs eating away at all our spare time since the New Year began, it hasn’t been easy to give our new companion, the Sony A7, the serious workout it deserves.

As such, last week I made a pact with myself: I’d leave the house an hour earlier than usual every morning before work and bring the Sony A7 out with me. Doing so gave me the time to get to know the inner workings of this wonderful camera quite well. As it turns out, it is always possible to make time for photography, even when you don’t seem to have any!
