The “all-purpose” lens for the A7 series – Sony 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 Review

07/09/2015 By Mathieu

This is one of those articles that wasn’t planned but rather happened because of convenience. The 24-240mm was not at the top of my list of lenses to test but it turned out that I needed a telephoto lens to take some pictures of the Tour of Britain 2015 since Stage 1 was passing through Wales. Unfortunately neither the 70-200mm f/4 nor any of the telephoto A-mount lenses were available to hire for that weekend.

Two Weeks in the Balkans with the Fujinon XF 16-55mm F2.8 – Guest Post by Ugo Cei

03/09/2015 By Mathieu

Two weeks, five countries and more than 3,000km.

I had been planning this trip for months: a long drive from Italy, across Slovenia, and down along the Dalmatian coast of Croatia into Montenegro, with a side trip to Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, all places that I had been wanting to visit for years, but that (aside from a short trip to Croatia last year) I had never set foot onto.

The everyday bag – The Cosyspeed Camslinger Streetomatic Review

01/09/2015 By Mathieu

Cosyspeed bags rapidly became one of my favourite solutions for carrying around my mirrorless gear. Since my first review last year, I have used the Camslinger 105 and Camslinger 160 a lot on various occasions, including professional assignments back in Italy. Being belt bags, they are smaller and obviously have less space than shoulder bags or backpacks but if you are willing to reduce your gear to the bare essentials, you’ll find that these bags embrace the mirrorless philosophy very well: carrying less, and carrying it better. For a short outing in the valley, mountains or city, I find it to be the best solution as you are free from shoulder straps and bigger bags that can often get in the way.

Comparing Apples with Oranges: Leica Q vs. Fuji X100T

31/08/2015 By Mathieu

I decided to make it clear right from the title that this is not a scientific comparison between two cameras with almost identical specs. On the contrary, the Leica Q and X100T don’t seem to have much in common at all except for one thing: they are the two premium compact cameras I’ve enjoyed using the most. The X100 series has long been my favourite for casual “everyday” photography. I just love the form factor and the quality you get from a such a small body. The Leica Q on the other hand is a camera I would probably not buy because of its price but I admit that I really enjoyed the time I spent with it thanks to the build quality, stunning 28mm lens and EVF.

A red kite, a crow and a cat walk into a bar… – Sony A7r II & Sigma 150-600mm Gallery

28/08/2015 By Mathieu

There is a farm in Mid-Wales called Gigrin where more than 300 red kites are fed everyday by a member of the family-run business. The birds, with a wingspan of 1.8 metres, battle not only with one another but also against crows, ravens and buzzards for the best pieces of meat. We even saw a cat sneaking onto the field to steal a chunk for dinner. While observing all this (and it is fascinating to watch), we took the opportunity to push the Sony A7r mark II’s autofocus capabilities to the extreme by mounting the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary (Canon EF mount) and the Metabones Mark IV adapter to take some shots of the birds in action.
