Shallow depth of field in landscape photography – A Leica M 240 gallery

20/04/2015 By Mathieu

One of the basic rules of landscape photography is to use slow apertures to create a deep depth of field and ensure sharpness. If you use a fast aperture like f/4 or f/2.8, it can result in a blurry foreground or background depending on your focus distance and your camera’s sensor size. If you use a wide angle lens, the blurring effect may be less noticeable at first but is more perceivable if you view the image on a large screen or in print.

The Nissin i40 Review – A great flash for Micro Four Thirds cameras

14/04/2015 By Mathieu

When you get used to working with a compact system such as Micro Four Thirds, you also start to consider compact accessories. You have a small camera and tiny lenses, so you obviously want a small flash as well. Some Micro Four Thirds cameras have very tiny flash units (often included with the camera) or built-in flashes that can cover the basic needs of an amateur photographer but these won’t satisfy the needs of an advanced or professional user.

5-axis stabilisation compared: Olympus OM-D E-M1 vs Sony A7 Mark II

13/04/2015 By Mathieu

In-body stabilisation is one of the features I’ve come to appreciate the most, not only on the Olympus OM-D series (my main system) but on other mirrorless cameras that have it as well. More than once, it has helped me take a quick shot without a tripod on the job.

A wide view of the world – The Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Review

09/04/2015 By Mathieu

In the first six months following the release of the Sony A7 and A7r, many users were complaining about the lack of native lenses for the system. One year and three months later, I must praise Sony for the effort it has put into releasing more lenses for the system. At the present day, there are ten full-frame E-mount lenses excluding the two Zeiss Loxia manual focus lenses. To me, that is not bad at all for a system that is less than two years old.
