Working professionally with the Fujifilm X series – Guest Post by Gabriele Lopez

10/10/2014 By Heather

“Are you shooting with a film camera? Is it old? What camera are you using?”

These are amongst the classic questions I am asked while working professionally as a photographer.

But first, let me introduce myself …

My name is Gabriele Lopez. I’ve lived and worked in Milan (Italy) as a professional photographer since 2004.

My jobs include: commercial photography which ranges from corporate to events, portraits mainly for local actors and books, weddings taken in a photojournalistic manner and personal projects that I do for myself and that the Millenium Images agency in London distributes. I constantly realize personal and collective projects in the form of self-printed books and fanzines.

The Amateur Corner – How does the Olympus Pen E-PL7 handle in a beginner’s hands?

12/09/2014 By Heather

When Mathieu and I write our camera reviews, our experience with the various cameras we’ve used in the past can sometimes skew our perception of the new models we test, especially those that are intended for an amateur audience. This is only natural, as many of the functions, dials, menus and buttons present on the first mirrorless cameras we tested continue to appear on subsequent models as well.

It is for this reason that we handed the new Olympus Pen E-PL7 over my mum, who has only ever used simple $100 point-and-shoot cameras and more recently, her iPad Mini to take photos. Since she had never used a mirrorless camera before, her thoughts and opinions helped us gain fresh insight into the camera from a complete beginner’s point of view. Using the Sony RX1R for Street Photography – Guest Post by Olivier Glod

18/07/2014 By Heather

Lately I’ve been enjoying Sony’s full-frame pocket powerhouse more and more and have already written about using it as a lightweight travel camera, as well as why I think it’s a great choice for night photography. There’s still a lot left to try and learn, so I was really excited and jumped at the chance when Heather asked me if I would be interested in jotting down my thoughts about how the Sony RX1R performs when it comes to street photography.

Fujifilm X-T1 Review: A Canon User’s Perspective – Guest Post by Duncan Fawkes

02/07/2014 By Heather

duncan fawkes bio picThe following is a guest post by the extremely talented outdoor photographer Duncan Fawkes. We discovered him on Twitter after seeing a selection of his powerful images from Scotland, the Peak District, the Lake District and Wales – four places for which we both have a deep affinity. A quick interaction between us soon led to this guest post, a review of the Fujifilm X-T1 interspersed with a handful of Duncan’s best images. We are certain you will enjoy reading his thoughts. Please remember to pay a visit to his website once you’ve finished reading to see more of his amazing work!

I’ve been a Canon user since I started photographing seriously in 2007. For the last 6 years I’ve been using the Canon 5D Mark 2/3.

Overall I’ve been very happy with the 5D. The image quality is terrific, and the controls are very well laid out and intuitive. It’s a very usable camera and a great performer.

However I was finding that its size and weight meant that I would often leave it at home. For dedicated landscape photography trips I’d take the big bag with me, but for everything else – family days, day trips, commuting, a leisurely stroll – the only camera I had with me was my iPhone.
