Pro zoom lenses for the X system – Part 2 – The Fujifilm 50-140mm f/2.8 Review

21/05/2015 By Mathieu

I bet that three years ago, when the X-Pro1 was first announced, the possibility of a telephoto lens such as the 50-140mm wouldn’t have even crossed our minds. At the time the budding system looked like an affordable rangefinder option with modern technology and a nice set of prime lenses. But that was the beginning and since then, a lot has changed.

Panasonic gives 4K and DFD technology to the new Lumix G7

18/05/2015 By Heather

The G6 wasn’t a particularly big step-up from the G5, with the most interesting additions being WiFi/NFC, an external mic jack and focus peaking, but the new Panasonic Lumix G7 seems to trump its predecessor in almost every way. From 4K capabilities to DFD autofocus technology, it packs a landslide of new features found on the most recent Lumix models, making it one of the most appealing options on the market for amateur hybrid photographers to date.

Thoughts about the new Fujifilm X-T10 and XF 90mm f2

18/05/2015 By Mathieu

Check out our hands-on article with the X-T10, 16mm f/1.4 and 90mm f/2 here!

We can say a lot of things about this new Fuji on the block but we certainly can’t say it was a surprise. The past few weeks have seen numerous rumours and images of the new camera leak out across the interweb and now it is official: Fujifilm has announced the X-T10. It fits somewhere in between the X-T1 and the X-E2, and proves that the X-T1 wasn’t simply a one-off but part of a succession of SLR-type cameras that will grow alongside the rangefinder X-Pro/X-E series. Despite the difference in design, the cameras all remain very similar and give you the same image quality.

Zeiss announces the Batis 25mm f/2.0 and 85mm f/1.8 for Sony’s Full-Frame E-Mount cameras

22/04/2015 By Heather

Back at Photokina 2014, we held a very interesting question and answer session with Zeiss product manager Christophe Casenave. During the interview, he stated in passing that Zeiss was really excited about the Sony FE series. Knowing this, we were almost certain that the next Zeiss announcement this year would have been a third Loxia lens, with a 25mm being the most logical choice. But we were certainly not expecting this…

Today, Carl Zeiss caught us all by surprise by announcing its first full-frame autofocus lenses for the Sony E-mount. This new family of lenses is specifically designed for the Sony’s full-frame mirrorless line-up (A7, A7r, A7s and A7 Mark II). And the good news is that Zeiss has started with two focal lengths that are currently missing from the FE line-up, the most exciting being the 85mm portrait lens. They will be exclusively developed and distributed by Zeiss itself.
