Fuji X Day with the Riflessi Camera Store: Hands-on with the Fuji X-E2

05/12/2013 By Heather

If there is one thing Fujifilm Italia is good at, it is holding Fuji X Days where people can come and try the full range of Fuji X Series products, from professional cameras like the X-Pro1 to high-end point-and-shoots like the XQ1, and a whole array of quality lenses in between.

This week, our friends at the Riflessi Camera Store were the hosts of a two-part Fuji X Day, consisting of a try-out session at their store and a professional shoot with models later on in the evening. Since Mat was away in London on a job and I had to work late, I only made it to the second half of the day. My aim? To get my hands on the Fuji X-E2, even if just for twenty minutes!

Contemporary Dance in Moncalieri: Pushing the Lumix GX7’s autofocus to the limit

03/12/2013 By Heather

“Elena’s asked us to photograph one of her dance performances on Saturday night in Moncalieri,” I hear Mathieu yell from the kitchen.

Looking down at the Panasonic Lumix GX7, a smile breaks across my face. I realise that there is one more test I have to perform before I can close the chapter on this mirrorless marvel. Though I’d already used the GX7 in poor lighting to test the ISO and internal stabilisation, and tried out the C-AF, tracking and continuous shooting on my friend’s daughter running towards me on a sunny day at the park for our full review, I’d never put the two conditions together. The combination of low light and moving objects would tell me whether the GX7 could really claim the title of ‘professional mirrorless camera’ or not.

Review of 1Eye Roaming: Patrick La Roque’s first photography e-book

02/12/2013 By Heather

When I first came across Patrick La Roque’s blog back in January, I was bewitched not only by his talent as a photographer, but also by his way with the written word. Patrick has the ability to make even the most banal situations come to life, using images as the core fabric of his posts and vivid commentary as the thread which binds them together.

It was no surprise then to discover that Patrick had decided to release his first e-book entitled 1Eye Roaming. He kindly sent us a copy for review, which Heather and I immediately devoured over the weekend.

8 Great Accessories Every Olympus OM-D E-M5 User Should Consider

22/11/2013 By Heather

The Olympus OM-D E-M5, upon its release a year and a half ago, was a groundbreaking camera. It was the first to use Olympus’ renowned 5-axis stabilisation, reducing the need for higher ISO levels in dark shooting conditions. It also has one of the fastest autofocus and continuous shooting mechanisms on a mirrorless camera. Finally, it was also one of the first modern digital cameras to feature a functional yet stylish retro look, making it desirable not only for its advanced technology but for its aesthetic appeal as well.

While it is the perfect photographic companion on its own, there are a handful of accessories which may make your shooting experience even better with the E-M5. Below I have listed a series of useful OM-D E-M5 accessories that were either suggested to us by other E-M5 users, or that we use ourselves.

The Gradual Move Towards Fujifilm: An Interview with Patrick La Roque

21/11/2013 By Heather

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with professional photographers who use mirrorless cameras for work! “Switching to a smaller and lighter system” has become somewhat of a buzz phrase as of late, but many working photographers take this philosophy seriously. From medical reasons such as resolving back and shoulder pain to the simple realisation that bigger does not mean better, photographers are turning to mirrorless systems now more than ever before.

This week’s interview is with freelance photographer Patrick La Roque from Montreal, Canada. He uses the Fuji X-Pro1 and X100 to shoot a variety of subjects, including “people, spaces, street and products.” An official Fuji X Photographer and founding member of the Kage Collective, he has an influential presence in the online photography world, though he will modestly tell you that he’s “just a guy looking to tell a story!”
