Zeiss announces the new Loxia 21mm f/2.8 lens for Sony E-mount

12/10/2015 By Mathieu

We first heard about it at the recent Zeiss Event in Oberkochen and now it has been made official: the third lens in the E-mount Loxia family in addition to the already existing 35mm and 50mm f/2 is the 21mm f/2.8. The Loxias are strictly manual focus lenses, even though they have been designed for digital cameras and include electronic contacts that can communicate Exif data. Turning the focus ring can also trigger the magnification assist.

09/10/2015 By Mathieu

Today Voigtländer announced three new Heliar lenses, the company’s first series with a native Sony E-mount. This announcement is not that surprising given the increasing interest in the company’s VM lenses designed for the Leica M mount system.

Over the past 5 years, smartphones have had a big impact on the photography industry. Not only are they replacing your average compact camera but they are also prompting camera manufactures to integrate some smartphone-related features into their own products (touch screens, Wifi, etc). Some camera brands have even responded to the increasing “mobile photography” trend by introducing some original products that work in tandem with your iOS or Android device. For example, we’ve seen smart lenses from Sony and Olympus and recently the DXO One.

A Weekend with a Wide-Angle – Sony FE 28mm f/2 Review

06/10/2015 By Mathieu

While we can no longer complain about the lack of native FE lenses given that 15 have been produced in just two years, the Sony full-frame lineup is still missing a series of high quality/affordable glass. Now, to complain about this wouldn’t be completely fair since the system is new and still growing. Still, in the case of most mature camera systems, users can depend not only on high-end expensive lenses for the best image quality but also a more affordable range of products that still deliver very good IQ but at a more affordable price.

Welcome to our series of 100 interviews we will be holding with professionals who use mirrorless cameras for their work! Since these cameras are excellent tools for both stills and video work, we decided to share the experience of a professional filmmaker for a change. 🙂

This week’s interview is with Brandon Li, a talented director, cinematographer and video editor from Los Angeles who is constantly travelling the globe. He switches between commercial work and original documentary-styled videos shot with his Sony A7s during his many journeys around the world. His work is very popular on Vimeo and has been selected as “Pick of the week” more than once. We first came across Brandon’s work on Sonyalpharumors.
