Third time’s the charm: The Sony RX100M3 could be the One!

When I reviewed the premium compact Sony RX100 mark II last summer in Wales, I immediately fell in love as it allowed me to carry around great image quality capabilities in my jean pocket. The only thing I felt was missing at the time was a viewfinder. And spending that extra money to buy the Sony external EVF simply wasn’t in the cards because I would have been sacrificing its great “pocketability”.

Now, one year later, Sony has announced a new version of the camera with a very smart feature: a built-in pop up OLED Tru-Finder.

Oh, come on Sony, why didn’t you think of this before!

A Colourful Afternoon: Hands-On with the Sony a6000

Another enjoyable Sony workshop organised by the Riflessi Camera Shop and Sony expert Davide Grimoldi allowed us to try the new Sony a6000 for a few hours. Usually, in situations like this, it isn’t easy to find an interesting theme to photograph but luck would have it that we had a walk in Valentino Park where the Turin Color Run was about to start. It was a great opportunity to try the most interesting new feature of this camera, its hybrid AF system with 179 phase detection points!

Sometimes, it’s just about love – A Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 Review

Sometimes it is challenging to be totally objective. Reviews aren’t just about technical charts and specifications, but also about feelings, perception and the various influences around you. This past weekend I got the chance to test the new XF 56mm f/1.2 by Fuji. It is a standard portrait lens (85mm equivalent) so a proper portrait session was unavoidable. However, this time, instead of looking elsewhere I decided to take some beautiful portraits of my better half. I often take photos of her in various conditions and with various lenses for the sake of the website, including some less-flattering lenses. (Think the Fuji 10-24mm!) This time, I had the chance to make things right. It was hard to not love the results in the end!

A Question of Beauty: Hands-On with the new Leica T type 701

Beauty in photography can be represented in many forms and has different meanings. But if we associate the word with the actual tool, in this case a camera, it is usually a question of aesthetics: “It looks nice” “It looks modern” “It looks ugly” and so on.

With Leica, the “Beauty” of a camera (with a capital B) is approached in a different way. It is not just a question of design; it is a concept, a philosophy. The new Leica T is a truly Beautiful camera because of the way it has been conceived.

So the question becomes obvious: how important is to shoot with a Beautiful camera?

Three days walking through the Cinque Terre with the Fuji X-T1 & XF 10-24mm f/4

Note: in December 2014, Fujifilm released the firmware version 3.00 that adds several new features to the camera including electronic shutter, Classic Chrome picture profile and many other things.

Despite living only three hours away from the Cinque Terre National Park, I had never set foot there before. There isn’t any particular reason except that I was probably waiting for a good excuse to go there, and that happened exactly last week when Heather and I took advantage of the long Easter weekend. Fresh air, long walks and a new camera/lens to accompany us: the perfect combination to escape work and enjoy one of the most unique and beautiful places in Italy.
