Sony has no limits! The new A7s is announced!

08/04/2014 By Mathieu

When I first tried the recently released Sony A7 and A7r, I wondered why Sony didn’t differentiate more substantially between the two cameras by giving the A7 less megapixels but a vaster ISO range. The answer is now very clear:  a third camera, called Sony A7s, where the “s” stands for sensitivity, was on its way.

It also included interesting video capabilities with a 4k recording option and professional settings that filmmakers will surely appreciate.

What if Fujifilm were to go full frame?

04/04/2014 By Mathieu

It doesn’t matter how many arguments we can conjure up in favour of smaller sensors like MFT or APS-C, when photographers hear the name “full frame”, their collective hearts skip a beat. It attracts them, it seduces them. It’s like walking on the streets and suddenly seeing a beautiful woman with an elegant red dress crossing your path for an instant. (For those who saw the movie, think of The Matrix sequence). You look at her, think she is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen, but as soon as she disappears from sight, you snap back to reality and continue on your way (and unlike Keanu Reeves, you probably won’t find an agent with a gun pointed at you).

The Inspired Eye: a conversation with Olivier Duong and Don Springer

One of the things I like the most about my job at MirrorLessons is discovering work created by other photographers on the web. Sometimes they are similar to what we do, other times they offer a different approach that can be very enriching.

Hands-On with the Sony / Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* 24-70 FE f/4 ZA OSS

28/03/2014 By Mathieu

Last Saturday, we spent a very nice morning with the Sony Italia team led by Davide Grimoldi and Amedeo Novelli. Many recent products were showcased including the A7 and A7r. As for me, I was interested in trying the new Vario Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4 for the system and I wasn’t disappointed: there was only one sample available and I got the chance to try it right away.

The Review Preview: Likes and dislikes about the Sony A7

13/03/2014 By Mathieu

I’m taking my time with the Sony A7. I got it for Christmas and I’ve been shooting with it a lot ever since. Normally our complete review would already be online, but since it was a personal purchase, I decided it would be wise to hold off and gain as much experience with it as possible.

I’ve shot a wide variety of pictures and I also made a professional video with the camera, but since some of the final content isn’t ready, perhaps a short “work-in-progress” review is welcome.
