Mirrorless and harmless – Canon EOS M5 First Impressions & Extended Thoughts

30/09/2016 By Mathieu

Let me be honest: I sincerely don’t know what to think of the Canon EOS M5. There, I said it. I’m sitting here in front of my computer trying to write some useful insights and I realise I don’t really have a clue.

Do I like it? No. Do I dislike it? No. Perhaps the best word would be: indifference. But indifference doesn’t help me write a review, or in this case, a hands-on review, or a first impressions review, or whatever can be considered appropriate for an article that basically says: I touched it!

At Photokina we also looked at some of the newly announced manual focus lenses for mirrorless cameras. Some products turned out to be quite promising like the two Laowa lenses.

M.Zuiko 25mm f/1.2 PRO, 12-100mm f/4 PRO and 30mm f/3.5 macro – The new Olympus Micro Four Thirds lenses

28/09/2016 By Mathieu

Nope, we haven’t forgotten to talk about the new Olympus lenses introduced at Photokina. Though we had the chance to see them at the same time as the OM-D E-M1 II (hands-on articles here and here), we decided to share our findings in a separate article that I admit, has arrived a little later than I’d hoped!

Olympus introduced one affordable macro prime lens (the M.Zuiko 30mm f/3.5) and two new Pro lenses: the 25mm f/1.2 PRO and the 12-100mm f/4 PRO. As usual, you can find our hands-on Photokina video below followed by some thoughts.

YI M1 Micro Four Thirds Camera – Hands-on and First Impressions

26/09/2016 By Mathieu

It is not uncommon to see the Micro Four Thirds mount being used by smaller companies to create digital imaging products. The latest to adopt the system is YI (Young Innovators), a Chinese company that released their first entry-level mirrorless camera, the YI M1, just in time for Photokina 2016.

Panasonic Lumix GH5: thoughts, speculation and Tokyo 2020

25/09/2016 By Mathieu

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 mark II and the Fujifilm GFX might have stolen the show at Photokina 2016, but the announced development of the Panasonic GH5 is no less exciting. Granted, we do not know much about the camera right now, as Panasonic has been very careful to unveil just a couple of specifications to build excitement, but what we’ve seen looks promising.
