Panasonic Lumix G85 / G80 – Hands-on and First Impressions

25/09/2016 By Mathieu

The Lumix G85 is clearly a camera that was announced because users were expecting it. It doesn’t bring anything particularly new to the table but like the Lumix GX85 before it, combines Panasonic’s latest technology into a very attractive package. We get a robust body with weather sealing, 5-axis stabilisation, Dual IS and a new mechanical shutter that solves the shutter shock problem. The good ergonomics and the extra options for video found on the Lumix G7 remain.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 mark II: questions answered, clarifications and extra information

22/09/2016 By Mathieu

One of the most difficult tasks when a new product is announced is to gather precise and correct information about the various specifications and minute details in a very short period of time. In fact, even some of the things written in the press releases and specification sheets can lack some precision. This can result in some confusion (and we are not immune to it!).

Fujifilm GFX Medium Format Mirrorless – Hands-On and First Impressions

21/09/2016 By Mathieu

Our second hands-on is all about the new Fujifilm medium format camera. Many users were asking for 35mm format, but the brand decided to go even larger! Granted, the camera targets a specific market of professional photographers but it is interesting to see this segment expanding with more and more competitors.

Keep in mind that Fujifilm only announced the development of the camera which means that specifications are not final and subject to change. Here is our video.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Hands-On and First Impressions

21/09/2016 By Mathieu

First of all, we apologise for the delay in our live blogging. We have been having serious issues with the Wifi connection at our hotel and we spent the first two days running around Koelnmesse with little time to take advantage of the press lounge. Anyway, between the Photokina lounge, McDonald’s and the hotel’s poor wifi, we’ve finally been able to start sharing our first impressions from the event. And there was only one camera we could start with: the Olympus OM-D E-M1 II!

Ready for Photokina 2016? Make sure to follow our live blogging!

16/09/2016 By Mathieu

Two years ago, Heather and I experienced our first Photokina. The one word that immediately came to mind when we stepped through the doors of the Koelnmesse exhibition centre was: HUGE! I remember discovering at the end of the show that there were entire halls we didn’t even know existed.

It is actually impossible to see everything in one week because Photokina isn’t just about the major camera and lens manufacturers – there are also entire halls dedicated to accessory companies from all over the world, subdivided by continent. You can literally become lost if you don’t pay attention to where you’re going.

Because it is the most popular photography event in the world and pretty much everyone in the industry is present, it is also a nice opportunity to meet people – both new faces and those you’ve only ever had the chance to meet online. In fact, this is one of the main reasons we decided to go back this year.

One “friend” Heather was particularly glad to make!
