Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 review (Sony E-mount)

18/07/2016 By Mathieu

When we interviewed product manager Christophe Casenave two years ago, he made it very clear just how important the Sony full-frame mirrorless system was to Zeiss. Today, with no less than 6 lenses designed specifically for the A7 series, we now have a clear picture of the German brand’s commitment, not only to designing lenses in partnership with Sony but also to producing a complete catalogue of its own products.

A companion for architecture and landscapes – Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 Review

20/01/2016 By Mathieu

In late October we had the chance to test a pre-production sample of the new Zeiss Loxia 21mm for the Sony E-mount during an enjoyable event in Cambridge. These last two weeks have been spent with a final version, allowing us to complete our analysis.

The 21mm is the third manual focus lens designed by Zeiss for the A7 full-frame mirrorless cameras and in my opinion it is also the most interesting focal length out of the three. As of now, this is the widest prime available for the FE system but I expect to see new products in 2016.

A day in Cambridge – Hands-On with the Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 (Sony E-Mount)

23/10/2015 By Mathieu

Today we spent a very pleasant day at the Zeiss Headquarters in Cambridge where we had the chance to try the new Loxia 21mm f/2.8 lens for the Sony E-mount system. In truth, this wasn’t the first time we’d seen the lens, as a prototype was on display at the Milvus event in Oberkochen (see our report here). But since the lens was still under embargo, we were kindly asked to remain quiet about it until the official announcement that happened the following week.

Born to be Wide – The Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 Review

23/07/2015 By Mathieu

Following our review of the 85mm that was published a few days ago, we are now here with our full review of the second Batis lens released by Zeiss, the 25mm f/2. The renowned German brand clearly sees Sony E-Mount as a system worth investing in, especially now that there are so many full frame cameras available. While the Loxia lens family is aimed at manual focus lovers who appreciate traditional distance scales and mechanical rings, the Batis family has more modern characteristics that include autofocus and the world’s first OLED screen on a lens.

Portrait Perfection – The Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 review

21/07/2015 By Mathieu

Update: the Batis 2/25mm review is now online!

Zeiss caused quite a stir when it announced its second family of lenses designed exclusively for the Sony E-mount system. Unlike the Loxia lenses (see our review here) that are manual focus, the Zeiss Batis 85mm offers everything you would expect from a modern lens: autofocus, optical stabilisation and the world’s first digital OLED screen that replaces the classic distance scale marked on the lens.
