Should I buy the OM-D E-M5, or wait for the new E-P5?

07/05/2013 By Heather

Deciding on your “forever camera” is never an easy task, especially when there are so many interesting models to choose from. This could not be more true for Olympus, a company which has more mirrorless cameras in its line-up than there are dandelions on my front lawn. (Well, not quite, but you get my drift!)

On May 10th 2013, choosing will become just that much more difficult with the official announcement of the brand new Olympus PEN E-P5. A glance at the the recently released specs list on 43rumors tells us that the E-P5 sits more or less on the same playing field as the OM-D E-M5, with a few obvious exceptions.

Falling in Love All Over Again with the Olympus OM-D E-M5

28/04/2013 By Heather

Tonight, I fell in love all over again. Not with my fiance and fellow MirrorLessons writer Mathieu (bless his heart), but with a camera – the Olympus OM-D E-M5.

This isn’t to say that I ever stopped loving the E-M5. It has the fastest continuous shooting mode I’ve ever seen, a cool retro body reminiscent of the old OM-D series, and drool-worthy image quality, despite its small Micro 4/3 sensor. And did I mention how incredibly silent and discreet it is?

But tonight was different. I had decided to accompany my fiancee on a photography assignment at the Massimo Cinema near the National Cinema Museum of Turin, where he was planning to use the E-M5 professionally for the first time.

‘Mirrorless Monday’ with Colin Franks and Dean Capinegro

22/04/2013 By Heather

Mirrorless fans, listen up!

Since we love seeing and sharing beautiful photos taken with mirrorless cameras, we’ve decided to start up “Mirrorless Monday,” a day when you, the readers, share your photos and the stories behind them. All you have to do is pick a photo you’ve taken with a mirrorless camera, write up a short (or long!) blurb about it, and send it to us at: mirrorlessons@gmail.com. We’ll choose a handful of photos every week to share on our website. (Of course, if you have a website/blog/Flickr page you’d like us to link to, feel free to send us the link as well.)

The OM-D Successor 2013? What we’d like to see…

10/03/2013 By Heather

There is no doubt that Olympus has struck gold with the creation of the OM-D E-M5, a mirrorless camera with a compact body and a level of image quality that would rival even the newest low-to-mid end DSLRs from Nikon and Canon. This incredible image quality remains intact even at high ISO levels and slow shutter speeds thanks to its internal image stabilisation. (Read our full review to find out more.) If that weren’t enough, this camera is also a looker, with its attractive retro-styling. In short, the OM-D E-M5 is pure perfection, and even comes at a reasonable price for the amount you receive in such a small package.

So, on a camera as perfect as the OM-D E-M5, where could Olympus possible make improvements? Having owned the camera for over a month now, here are a few suggestions we’d like to put forward to Olympus, if they’ll lend us an ear!

Alessia: An Olympus OM-D E-M5 Portrait Session

05/03/2013 By Mathieu

Last weekend, my dear friend and great Italian actress Alessia Olivetti asked me to do a short portrait session as she needed to update her portfolio with new photographs. I seized the opportunity to work with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 coupled with the M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 and the Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95, which my collegue Marco Iozzo was kind enough to lend me for a couple of days. I love to shoot portraits with natural lighting, so we took to the streets of Turin to carry out the session.
