Open Wide – The Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 Review

28/05/2015 By Mathieu

The M.Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8 is the third professional zoom designed by Olympus. It is also the second super-wide angle zoom lens for the Micro Four Thirds system but has a constant aperture of f/2.8 instead of f/4, as found on the Panasonic 7-14mm. It goes without saying that many users were interested in the idea of a faster wide angle zoom lens that could provide more versatility than the Panasonic version.

Wide butterflies – An Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 and 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye gallery

25/05/2015 By Mathieu

Usually when you put insects and photography together, the first piece of equipment that comes to mind is a macro lens. I admit that macro isn’t my favourite genre, but Heather is a great fan of macro butterfly photography and often uses the M.Zuiko 60mm. However when we stopped at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory (Ontario, Canada), we challenged ourselves to use only the two new Olympus extreme wide angles lenses: the 7-14mm f/2.8 and the 8mm Fisheye f/1.8.

Pro zoom lenses for the X system – Part 2 – The Fujifilm 50-140mm f/2.8 Review

21/05/2015 By Mathieu

I bet that three years ago, when the X-Pro1 was first announced, the possibility of a telephoto lens such as the 50-140mm wouldn’t have even crossed our minds. At the time the budding system looked like an affordable rangefinder option with modern technology and a nice set of prime lenses. But that was the beginning and since then, a lot has changed.

Thoughts about the new Fujifilm X-T10 and XF 90mm f2

18/05/2015 By Mathieu

Check out our hands-on article with the X-T10, 16mm f/1.4 and 90mm f/2 here!

We can say a lot of things about this new Fuji on the block but we certainly can’t say it was a surprise. The past few weeks have seen numerous rumours and images of the new camera leak out across the interweb and now it is official: Fujifilm has announced the X-T10. It fits somewhere in between the X-T1 and the X-E2, and proves that the X-T1 wasn’t simply a one-off but part of a succession of SLR-type cameras that will grow alongside the rangefinder X-Pro/X-E series. Despite the difference in design, the cameras all remain very similar and give you the same image quality.

From Tywyn to London, part II: Olympus 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye image samples

12/05/2015 By Mathieu

Update: check out our full review of the Olympus 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye!

The 8mm f1.8 Fisheye was the second lens announced by Olympus today. As with the 7-14mm, we received it just before heading to London for our third photo walk. As coincidence would have it, Heather’s father and his Welsh male voice choir were singing at the Royal Albert Hall on the very same day, so we had a lovely ride on the bus down to London with him and the other members of the Côr Meibion Bro Dysynni. During the 7-hour journey through the UK countryside, we tried to take as many pictures as possible with the lens.
