Photokina 2014: First impressions of the Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 ZM for the M-mount system

22/09/2014 By Mathieu

One of the new products announced by Zeiss at Photokina was a new lens for the ZM series (Leica M-mount). The Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 is a great addition for rangefinder users who want a high quality 35mm lens but also a less expensive alternative to the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux by Leica. The new 35mm offers a faster aperture of f/1.4 in comparison to the other two Biogon 35mm f/2 and 35mm f/2.8 ZM lenses already in existence. Zeiss was kind enough to let me try the lens on a Leica M240. [Read more…] about Photokina 2014: First impressions of the Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 ZM for the M-mount system

Photokina 2014: Trying the new Leica Summarit-M-lenses on the Sony A7s

21/09/2014 By Mathieu

Leica announced a number of new camera and lenses at Photokina 2014. Amongst the new releases, there are the new versions of the Summarit-M-lenses. The 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 90mm, all of which have the same fast aperture of f/2.4, have been redesigned and improved in performance. They are also available for the first time in both black and silver. [Read more…] about Photokina 2014: Trying the new Leica Summarit-M-lenses on the Sony A7s

Photokina 2014: Hands-on with the new Samsung NX1

20/09/2014 By Mathieu

The Samsung NX1 is certainly one of the most exciting camera announcements at Photokina this year. Samsung seems to have put the most advanced technology they possibly could in their flagship APS-C mirrorless model. We had a hands-on session at the Samsung booth but unfortunately, despite the presence of lots of samples in the area, they were all pre-production models and the SD card was actually sealed to make sure no one could insert his or her own card. But we were still able to try some other interesting features.

Photokina 2014: First impressions of the Zeiss Loxia lenses for Sony E-mount

20/09/2014 By Mathieu

One of the most enjoyable moments spent at Photokina was at the Zeiss booth. After our interview with Mr. Christophe Casenave, product manager for all manual focus lenses, we had the opportunity to shoot with both Loxia lenses (35mm and 50mm) using a sample Sony A7r and our Sony A7s. We extend our thanks to Mr. Casenave for giving us this opportunity!

Photokina 2014: Hands-On with the new Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro and more

19/09/2014 By Mathieu

Update: check out our first impressions article with lots of images and video samples!

One of the most interesting aspects of this edition of Photokina is that most mirrorless systems are expanding their high-end products to satisfy professional photographers, and something they almost all have in common has been the decision to release a professional telephoto lens. Perhaps the new M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 is the most interesting: it is surprisingly light and compact while being the one that offers the vastest focal length range (80-300mm equivalent).
