A Black & White Walk in the Mountains with the Olympus OM-D E-M1

08/04/2014 By Mathieu

Last weekend we spent Sunday afternoon in Mont Avic in the Valle d’Aosta region for our first “spring walk” in the Alps. It was my first real break after more than a month of non-stop work. That bit of fresh air and silence was exactly what I needed.

It was a little bit too early for coloured landscapes and nature shots. Snow was still present and the sky was cloudy for most of the day. As such I thought it would be an interesting opportunity to shoot in black and white and try the E-M1 JPGs in monochrome.

In search of sharpness: Portrait session with the M.Zuiko 75mm f/1.8

17/03/2014 By Heather

I have long known about the Olympus M.Zuiko 75mm f/1.8‘s reputation for extraordinary sharpness but it was only on Saturday at the Olympus Day held by Polyphoto (the Olympus distributor in Italy) and Riflessi Digital Shop that I was able to try it out during a proper studio portrait session. In fact, the lens never left my Pen E-P5 the entire time I was there, much to the amusement of the Polyphoto representative. I believe his words to Riflessi staff were: you’ve got to give this girl a 75mm, now! If only… 😉

Leave your tripod at home! – An Olympus OM-D E-M1 Gallery

28/11/2013 By Mathieu

This week, we have been a little late in publishing our articles here at Mirrorlessons for a number of reasons I don’t want to bore you with. But don’t worry, we are still here, working very hard to bring you as many articles as we can. My special “Mirrorless on the Job” review of the OM-D E-M1 is almost ready so I’d thought I’d give you a sneak preview in the meantime.

During my first hands-on at Castle Leslie, I managed to compare the stabilisation of the new Olympus flagship camera to the E-M5 and saw a notable improvement, which makes this camera a real option for low-light situations. Not only can you avoid using high ISO values, but you can confidently shoot without a tripod if you don’t want to carry one with you as well.

Going Wide Inside the Museum: An Olympus Pen E-P5 & Lumix 7-14mm f/4 Gallery

25/10/2013 By Mathieu

In the middle of September, the Turin Cinema Museum asked me to take some shots of the wonderful Martin Scorsese exhibition before its closing at the end of the month. The request was very simple: they wanted pictures of the temple room which included the main part of the exhibition at the bottom and the dome at the top. The temple room is both the biggest open space and the main chamber of the Mole Antonelliana, the tower symbol of Turin and home of the museum. Basically, I had to include the very bottom and top of this giant “room” in a single shot (around 70 metres, 229 feet).

Photo Gallery of Our Day at Castle Leslie with the Olympus OM-D E-M1

23/09/2013 By Heather

Huddled at the end of a higgledy-piggledy road that likes to call itself the town of Glaslough is a secret plentiful in lush greenery, tranquil lakes, serene walks and a castle so grand and well-preserved that one might think it belonged to the Monarchy itself.

It was here at Castle Leslie, one of the most handsome castles-turned-luxury resorts in all of Ireland, that Mathieu and I had our first meeting with the Olympus OM-D E-M1. This blog, MirrorLessons, was born with a review of the OM-D E-M5, so it only seemed right that the first big photography event we attended be in honour of the E-M5’s big brother, the E-M1. It was as if we had come full circle.
