First impressions of the Sony RX100 III: Is it worth upgrading from the RX100 II?

08/10/2014 By Heather

If you’ve been following MirrorLessons from the beginning, you might remember that we purchased a Sony RX100 II for our holiday in Wales last year. Even back then, we were highly impressed by the way Sony managed to merge high-end technology and compactness into one body. It was the first mirrorless camera that truly lived up to the definition of “pocketable” while producing images of such quality that one would feel comfortable submitting them to a client.

Enjoy the light, love the dark – The Sony A7s Full Review

10/09/2014 By Mathieu

The announcement of the Sony A7s back in April was a surprise for everyone, even the various rumour sites, which are always on top of the most recent leaks. For me, it was the camera I had been hoping to see from Sony, a camera that would concentrate less on megapixels and more on other features. But to desire a camera with specific specs is one thing, to try it and see what it can do in real conditions is another.

It is also important to understand if these new features, however amazing they be, can really make a difference to the photographer. This is why I’ll cut to the chase right now and say that this camera produces outstanding low-light results and that 102400 ISO is usable. You probably knew that already anyway, so I won’t repeat it further.

Speed in a small and simple package: Review of the Sony a6000

02/09/2014 By Heather

We’ve been very keen on testing the Sony a6000 since its announcement back in February 2014, but with so many other interesting cameras emerging around the same time, it sadly fell by the wayside. Mathieu did spend a day with the camera during the Turin Colour Run courtesy of Sony Italia, but it wasn’t enough to write up a substantial review. Thankfully, we recently came across a wonderful service here in the UK called Hireacamera.com, whereby you hire cameras and lenses at a reasonable price for any given length of time. As soon as I saw they had the a6000 in stock, I contacted them and went about preparing for our very first hire!

Shooting with the Dark Knight – First Impressions of the Sony A7s

14/07/2014 By Mathieu

I’m not going to hide the fact that the Sony A7s is a camera that I’ve been eagaerly awaiting ever since I first heard the news of its existence. While I enjoyed shooting with the A7 and A7r and appreciated their wonderful image quality, at the time of their announcement the first thing I wrote was: why not draw a more drastic line between the two cameras? Why not have a “Nikon D4 like” sensor with amazing sensitivity in low light?

Shooting in the tunnel of memories: Using the Sony A7 for Video

30/06/2014 By Mathieu

These days when we mention the words video and Sony in the same sentence, we immediately think of the brand new Sony A7s and its amazing low-light capabilities. While we wait to receive a unit to review (and this should happen very soon), I thought it could be interesting to write about a film I shot in February with the Sony A7, when there still wasn’t a single rumour about an “s” version.
