The Mirrorless Camera Round-up: E-P5, E-PL6, G6, LF1 and more!

13/04/2013 By Heather

The Internet is currently flooded with news and rumors about new mirrorless cameras set for release in 2013. Since work and family commitments have stopped me from writing a post about each specific model, I’ve decided to sum up the news that has been deemed official here, in one post.

The Panasonic GF6 is on its way

08/04/2013 By Heather

Update: The official images have now been released by Panasonic. You can see them on Mirrorless Rumors.

It looks like TechRadar made a small blunder by leaking its Panasonic GF6 hands-on review a tad before schedule. While the review has since been taken down, you can still find images of the new camera on Gizmodo and Imgur. From what we can see, it has an attractive and functional build, with a silver accent along the body and a useful mode dial on the top.

‘The Rain It Raineth Everyday’ in Venice: A Black and White Fuji x20 Gallery

04/04/2013 By Heather

Update: Check out our x20 full review, homemade macro test, Photoshow gallery, Advanced mode test, and high ISO test.

The wait was almost unbearable. While the rest of the world seemed to be frolicking madly in the fields with the new Fuji x20 and x100s, neither had arrived in shops here in Italy. The vendors tried to reassure us, with one promise after another of a punctual delivery, and yet, there was no sign.

Now, before you go and assume that we are sick with some incurable camera fetish, you must know there was actually good reason for our desperation. You see, only a week remained before our five-day Easter trip to Venice, and in our minds, there really was no better place to test these two cameras than the most beautiful city in Italy!

Fujifilm x20: Low-light performance test at the National Cinema Museum of Turin

27/03/2013 By Heather

Update: Check out our x20 full review, Photoshow gallery, Advanced mode test, and high ISO test.

We all know that mirrorless cameras like the Olympus OM-D E-M5, the Panasonic GH3 and the Fujifilm x100s have been bestowed with superior low-light capabilities. And with an average price tag of over $1000, we shouldn’t expect much less.

So, what should we be hoping for from the new Fujifilm x20 in terms of ISO performance? Despite its classy retro appearance, it is, in all effects, a compact point-and-shoot, so we need to treat it as such.

Fujifilm x20: Review of Advanced Mode with the Mole Antonelliana

22/03/2013 By Heather

Update: Check out our x20 full review, homemade macro test, Photoshow gallery, and high ISO test.

Spring has sprung here in Turin, and for the first time in a long while, the Alps were clearly visible from the city centre. Since this industrial Italian city is located in a valley, smog and mist often shroud the mountains from sight, but every now and then, the winds carry it away, leaving us with a view that makes the Torinese (and foreigners like me) burst with pride.

After work, I took a stroll up to Monte dei Cappucini, one of the best places to photograph not only the mountains but the city itself. The panoramic view extends as far as Mt. Viso to the left, carries on past the Mole Antonelliana in the heart of the city, and finishes at the basilica Superga on the far right.

Given the fine weather and clear skies, I went ahead and tested some of the functions found in the Advanced Mode of the Fujifilm x20.
