Photokina 2014: Hands-on with the Leica M-A, Leica M-60 and the missing “entry level” M

Leica announced plenty of new products at Photokina and its booth was also one of the most elegant including a very nice gallery featuring Leica photographers from all over the world. After our interview with Rachel Barker (Head of PR), we stopped at the various desks to try the new products.

Two of them were related to the history of the brand. After releasing a special edition of the Leica M for to celebrate 100 years of Leica photography, the German camera brand also announced another special edition to celebrate 60 years of the M system. There was also a new film M camera that pays tribute to and supports the use of film and analogue photography.

Photokina 2014: Interview with product manager Riccardo Scotti of Fujifilm Italy

After trying the new X100T, X30 and XF lenses at the Fujifilm media session, we stopped at the Fujifilm press lounge to talk with Riccardo Scotti, product manager for Fujifilm Italy. We discussed not only the new products announced just before Photokina, but also the growing interest in the system from professional photographers, customer support, full-frame and other interesting topics.

Photokina 2014: Nokton 10.5mm f/0.95, ZY Optics 42.5mm f/1.2 and 24mm f/1.7 – Manual focus lenses for the MFT system

After trying the new Leica Summarit-M, the Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f0.95 and the Samyang 50mm f/1.4 on the Sony A7s, our hands-on with manual focus lenses continued when we stopped at the ZY Optics booth a second time to test their new lenses for Micro Four Thirds. We also popped by the Voigtländer booth to get a look on the new 10.5mm f/0.95.

If you’ve been following our Photokina reportage, you’ll know that we were very impressed with the two Zeiss Loxia lenses, but we mustn’t forget about the other interesting manual focus lenses for the Sony full frame system on display as well. Two of these lenses, the Mitakon Speedmaster “Dark Knight” Pro 50mm f/0.95 and Samyang 50mm f/1.4, were recently announced and available to try at Photokina.
