Painting with Light in Wales: An Olympus Pen E-P5 Landscape Gallery

12/08/2013 By Mathieu

What I love about Wales are those unique green tones you see on the hills and mountains. And, being such a changeable climate, you can encounter some very dramatic scenery where shadows and light reveal the shapes and colours of the mountains like a painter would do on his canvas.

Trailing the British Butterflies: An Olympus Pen E-P5 Gallery

09/08/2013 By Heather

As many of you may have guessed, I am a bit of a lepidopterist. Nobody, not even Mathieu, has quite been able to get their head around my passion for these winged flowers, and admittedly, I too am mystified by the profound positive effect they have on me. Every year, as summer approaches, I jot down places to visit where butterflies thrive with the aim of adding at least one new species to my list of “butterflies I’ve seen”. Now that I am passionate about photography as well, the two interests have mingled, resulting in a very large collection of butterfly photos that grows 10-fold every year.

5-Axis Stabilization in the Olympus Pen E-P5: Is it all it’s cracked up to be?

18/07/2013 By Heather

Update: our full review of the Pen E-P5 is now up!

For those who’ve been locked in a dark room for the past two years, there now exists a new kind of internal stabilization that has got camera zealots buzzing. It has the fancy name of ‘5-axis stabilization‘, and was first introduced in the revolutionary Olympus OM-D E-M5. Using gyroscopic sensors, it detects the amount of camera shake. Then, the IS unit built into the camera compensates accordingly, delivering clear, sharp and detailed images every time. The name “5-axis” derives from the fact that the sensor shifts in five different directions – vertical angle rotation, horizontal angle rotation, vertical shift, horizontal shift and rolling camera shake.

A Quick Hands-On with the new Olympus Pen E-P5

29/06/2013 By Mathieu

Update: our full review of the Pen E-P5 is now up!

Yesterday, I had a brief encounter with the new Pen E-P5 at an Olympus product demonstration here in Torino. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to take the camera out for a short spin as I had done with Fujinon 55-200mm last month, so I will limit myself to sharing just my preliminary thoughts about this new addition to Olympus’ line of mirrorless cameras. Here at MirrorLessons, we intend to fully review it when we have our own test model available, so stay tuned!
