A weekend with the Fuji X-Pro 1: first impressions and thoughts about the Fuji X system

17/05/2013 By Mathieu

Update: now you can check out the complete review about the X-Pro 1!

Since a few days isn’t enough time to write a review with a capital “R”, I thought it would be more interesting to share my initial thoughts about the camera and the X system in general. The Fuji X-Pro 1 is one of the cameras that has deeply captured my interest since its release, and now that I’ve had the chance to test it, I’m trying to figure out if it is a system that I could embrace for my personal projects or work.

I had the chance to play around with it two weekends ago. Heather and I went to Genova in the Liguria region, chasing the sun, as the weather is very unpredictable these days in northern Italy. Luckily for us, the day was wonderful and I was able test the camera along many of the small streets of the old city, as well as along the Costa Ligure.

Fuji XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Hands-on … plus more interesting news about the X system

11/05/2013 By Mathieu

Update: We had a second opportunity to use the 55-200mm during the Fuji eXperience Tour here in Italy. Click here for part two!

My original plan for this lazy Saturday was to finish my article about the X-Pro 1 which I tested last week, but then I heard about the Fujifilm X Day at the camera store Grande Marvin here in Turin where Fujifilm was showcasing its entire X camera line and lenses. Of course, my priorities took a 360-degree turn!

At the event, I had the chance to talk with a representative of Fujifilm Italia who divulged some very interesting information about possible releases we may see in the future. And of course, I tried different products, including the brand new 55-200mm zoom for the X-Pro 1 and X-E1!

Fuji x20 Review: X-Pro1 technology in a compact body

27/04/2013 By Heather

N.B.: This article is the complete review of the Fujifilm x20. To see our series of mini-reviews dealing with specific aspects of the camera, go here: Macro Test, Low-Light Test, Advanced Mode Test, B&W Gallery, and Photoshow Gallery.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you put X-Pro1 technology into a small point-and-shoot body? Well, the result would be the new Fujifilm x20. Contained within its compact shell is a smaller updated version of the X-Trans CMOS sensor found in the X-Pro1 and X-E1, making this camera one of the highest-performing compacts on the market in terms of image quality.

A Journey Through Venice: The Fuji X100s Review

06/04/2013 By Mathieu

Update: also check out our Mirrorless on the Job – Episode 2 about using the X100s for work.

I finally received my Fujifilm X100s last week, two days before leaving for Venice where Heather and I joined her parents for a quick Easter holiday.

After following all the fanfare surrounding the x100s on the Internet and reading a number of very good reviews, I was very curious to try the camera out for myself to see if all this enthusiasm really bore fruit. To try it out in Venice was an added bonus, as it is probably my favourite Italian city. I have decided to write this review in the form of a journal of our trip there, describing how I became increasingly confident with the camera and why I am enjoying it more and more each day.

I am aware that 5 days aren’t enough to write a complete and in-depth review, but since I’m planning to use it frequently, I will post more thought about it in the weeks to come. Ready? Time to chase down some gondolas!

Fujifilm x20: Low-light performance test at the National Cinema Museum of Turin

27/03/2013 By Heather

Update: Check out our x20 full review, Photoshow gallery, Advanced mode test, and high ISO test.

We all know that mirrorless cameras like the Olympus OM-D E-M5, the Panasonic GH3 and the Fujifilm x100s have been bestowed with superior low-light capabilities. And with an average price tag of over $1000, we shouldn’t expect much less.

So, what should we be hoping for from the new Fujifilm x20 in terms of ISO performance? Despite its classy retro appearance, it is, in all effects, a compact point-and-shoot, so we need to treat it as such.
