Fujinon XF 18-135mm: The weather-sealed travel lens is finally here! – Guest post by X Photographer Max De Martino

16/06/2014 By Mathieu

Update: check out more pictures taken by Max De Martino with the new XF 18-135mm lens here!

Today Fujifilm announced its first weather-sealed zoom lens and X Photographer Max De Martino got a sample right before he started his new photography project. Max generously shared his impressions with us and allowed us to publish the English version of his post as well as some pictures. The same thing happened three months ago when Max shot the first wedding with the Fuji X-T1.

A taste of Leica in the MFT system – A Panasonic-Leica Nocticron DG 42.5mm f/1.2 Review

10/06/2014 By Mathieu

This year Panasonic released two new lenses designed by Leica for the Micro Four Thirds system. One of them cannot go unnoticed. Not only is it larger and heavier than your standard MFT lens, but it is also expensive. Actually, at the time of writing this article, it is the most expensive lens available for both Lumix and Olympus Micro Four Thirds cameras (until the next Olympus pro lenses come along).

A Colourful Afternoon: Hands-On with the Sony a6000

14/05/2014 By Mathieu

Another enjoyable Sony workshop organised by the Riflessi Camera Shop and Sony expert Davide Grimoldi allowed us to try the new Sony a6000 for a few hours. Usually, in situations like this, it isn’t easy to find an interesting theme to photograph but luck would have it that we had a walk in Valentino Park where the Turin Color Run was about to start. It was a great opportunity to try the most interesting new feature of this camera, its hybrid AF system with 179 phase detection points!

Sometimes, it’s just about love – A Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 Review

06/05/2014 By Mathieu

Sometimes it is challenging to be totally objective. Reviews aren’t just about technical charts and specifications, but also about feelings, perception and the various influences around you. This past weekend I got the chance to test the new XF 56mm f/1.2 by Fuji. It is a standard portrait lens (85mm equivalent) so a proper portrait session was unavoidable. However, this time, instead of looking elsewhere I decided to take some beautiful portraits of my better half. I often take photos of her in various conditions and with various lenses for the sake of the website, including some less-flattering lenses. (Think the Fuji 10-24mm!) This time, I had the chance to make things right. It was hard to not love the results in the end!

A Question of Beauty: Hands-On with the new Leica T type 701

30/04/2014 By Mathieu

Beauty in photography can be represented in many forms and has different meanings. But if we associate the word with the actual tool, in this case a camera, it is usually a question of aesthetics: “It looks nice” “It looks modern” “It looks ugly” and so on.

With Leica, the “Beauty” of a camera (with a capital B) is approached in a different way. It is not just a question of design; it is a concept, a philosophy. The new Leica T is a truly Beautiful camera because of the way it has been conceived.

So the question becomes obvious: how important is to shoot with a Beautiful camera?
