The Pet Shop Boys ‘Electric’ Tour – Using the Olympus OM-D E-M1 for concert photography

29/07/2014 By Heather

I’m not really what you would call an avid concert goer, but as soon as I heard that one of my favourite groups, the Pet Shop Boys, would be holding a free concert in Turin’s enormous Piazza San Carlo during the Traffic Festival, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. I had seen them in concert over ten years ago with my mum in downtown Toronto, and while the experience was unforgettable, from where we were sitting, Neil and Chris appeared to be no more than two tiny moving specks off in the distance.

Using Four Thirds lenses with the Olympus OM-D E-M1: When are they suitable?

27/06/2014 By Mathieu

With the release of the flagship OM-D E-M1, Olympus put a definitive end to its Four Thirds DSLR line and a stop to rumours predicting a new model, the E-7. The main reason is because the E-M1 and its new autofocus system is capable of handling both MFT and FT lenses. As such, the company decided to take a risk and pour all its efforts into the MFT system.

I had the chance to briefly test the E-M1’s AF capabilities with the Zuiko lenses last year at Castle Leslie and my first impression was positive.

Mirrorless on the Job – Episode 1: Working with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 as my primary camera

02/07/2013 By Mathieu

Update: I now use an OM-D E-M1 as my primary camera for work. You can read about my experience with it here.

On a professional level, changing your gear isn’t something that you want to do on a whim. In our work, everything lies in the details, and when you change the setup you use everyday, all these details must be reconsidered, from the simple familiarization with the new features of your camera, to understanding how the camera will react in any given situation. While it takes time and patience to harmonize with a new body, it is also an invaluable personal step forward, whereby you add something new to your photographic approach.

23/01/2013 By Mathieu

Update: the complete review of the OM-D E-M5 is online!

Here we are – our first review is finally online, and what better choice for a first review than the queen of all mirrorless cameras, the Olympus OM-D E-M5. This is not a complete review, as I have just started using the camera, and there are still many test shots I’d like to take in real-life situations.
