The New OM-D E-M1: Olympus’ Biggest Announcement of the Year

10/09/2013 By Heather

The secret was originally leaked when a hidden link to an unreleased Engadget video file was discovered, but now it’s become official: the new Olympus OM-D E-M1 is real and ready to hit stores in early October. Not only, but a new M.Zuiko PRO 12-40mm f/2.8 zoom will accompany its release, and a 40-150mm f/2.8 will follow in 2014.

Looking at the official specs, the new OM-D will be a beautiful mix between the previous OM-D E-M5 and the new Pen E-P5, seasoned with a few new features of its own.

Fuji News Round-up: XF 23mm f/1.4 lens announcement & X100 firmware update

05/09/2013 By Heather

Photographers who shoot with interchangeable Fuji X series cameras will be thrilled to know that the Fujifilm lens road map is really beginning to unfold. Back in June, we saw the announcement of the fine Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens, while today we encountered every street photographer’s dream lens: the Fujinon XF 23mm f/1.4 (35mm equivalent on a full frame camera).

The Sony QX Lenscamera: The replacement for a dying compact camera market?

04/09/2013 By Heather

Today marks the announcement of the first two “lenscameras” from Sony, the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100. Only six months ago, the concept of a “lenscamera” seemed too fanciful for words, but here they are, against all odds!

These lenses represent a huge leap in technology from the external smartphone lenses previously produced. Whereas the QX lenses are actually cameras in and of themselves, previous external smartphone lenses were very much restricted by the tiny sensor and general capabilities of the phone.

Sony’s Official Announcement: NEX-5T, ILC-3000, two new lenses…but no Full Frame NEX?

30/08/2013 By Heather

If there is one camera company that is investing in the mirrorless movement at 110% capacity, it is Sony. Just this month, the company announced two new mirrorless cameras, the NEX-5T and the A3000, and two new lenses, the 16-70mm f/4 Zeiss and 18-105mm f/4 G PZ. Though still very much a rumour, this announcement will most likely be followed up by the much-anticipated confirmation of the Sony Full Frame NEX in the coming weeks. (We certainly can’t say that the good folk at Sony have been spending 2013 twiddling their thumbs, now, can we? :-))
