Contemporary Dance in Moncalieri: Pushing the Lumix GX7’s autofocus to the limit

03/12/2013 By Heather

“Elena’s asked us to photograph one of her dance performances on Saturday night in Moncalieri,” I hear Mathieu yell from the kitchen.

Looking down at the Panasonic Lumix GX7, a smile breaks across my face. I realise that there is one more test I have to perform before I can close the chapter on this mirrorless marvel. Though I’d already used the GX7 in poor lighting to test the ISO and internal stabilisation, and tried out the C-AF, tracking and continuous shooting on my friend’s daughter running towards me on a sunny day at the park for our full review, I’d never put the two conditions together. The combination of low light and moving objects would tell me whether the GX7 could really claim the title of ‘professional mirrorless camera’ or not.

Pasta Ouverture: A stop motion animation with the Panasonic GX7

11/11/2013 By Mathieu

Lumix cameras are always overflowing with interesting features and the new Panasonic GX7 is no exception. The challenge, however, is finding a concrete reason to use them. Lumix cameras have always had excellent video features, and in the case of the GX7, it offers a very interesting stop motion animation feature (first introduced on the G6) in addition to time-lapse and standard video recording. Last week, my colleague’s wife Iryna asked us to help her with a project for the Design Masters Course she is finishing for the Red Oddity school in Bolzano. Serendipitously, that project involved stop motion animation. What could have been more ideal?

When a common passion brings people together: A Tale of Friendship, Photography and Fuji cameras

10/11/2013 By Mathieu

The love for photography is often enough to trigger meetings between people who, in other circumstances, would never have met. Photography clubs aren’t something new, but the Internet and social networks have increased the possibility to interact with all sorts of like-minded people across the globe, both online and off.

When I first entered the Fuji X Series Club Italia on Facebook, I was overwhelmed by how friendly, funny and welcoming the members were. Out of curiosity, I asked the founder, Marco Bozzato, to tell us the story of the group.

From there I discovered a story made up of friendship, photo walks, delicious Italian meals, selfies in the elevator and, above all, an unconditional love for Fujifilm cameras.

Post-processing Sony RX100M2 colours with Lightroom and Huelight Color Profiles

08/11/2013 By Mathieu

If you read our full review of the Sony RX100M2, you probably know how much we love this small yet powerful compact camera. Its 1-inch Exmor sensor can deliver great images on its own, but the best way to get the most out of these images is to manipulate the raw files in a post-processing program. I often find the colours of the RX100M2’s OOC JPGs less natural than on other cameras. Moreover, the raw files give you more dynamic range to work with.

The OM-D E-M1, New PRO Lenses and 2014: An Interview with Olympus Europe

18/09/2013 By Heather

Low-light performance – Olympus Europe interview – M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro lens – Autofocus – Our day at Castle Leslie

During our wonderful stay with the Olympus team at Castle Leslie in Ireland, Olympus managers Toshiyuki Terada (Deputy General Manager), Jörn Fandrey (Department Manager, Marketing Communications) and Michael Guthmann (Product Manager) were kind enough to fit in an informal interview with Mathieu and me just before dinner. Sat in one of the many cosy sitting rooms in the main castle building, we put a series of questions to the managers, excited to discover more about the new OM-D E-M1 and the M.Zuiko PRO lens line-up, and what the future holds for Olympus.
